The Documentary Photo Centre’s curators have over seven years of experience curating, designing, and producing photo exhibitions. We are also happy to provide curatorial services outside the Documentary Photo Centre.

Below are the short bios of the Documentary Photo Centre’s curators.
Kristel Laur
is one of the founders of the Juhan Kuus Documentary Photo Centre, serving as its co-director, curator, and designer. Kristel’s educational background is a combination of psychology and design. She graduated 2001 from Tallinn University with a master’s degree in Psychology and Social Pedagogy. As an exchange student at the University of Helsinki, she specialized in creative thinking and innovation management. She later continued her studies at the Estonian Academy of Arts, earning a Bachelor of Humanities in interior design and decoration and pursuing a master’s degree in textile design. She has curated and designed over sixty photo exhibitions in Estonia and abroad. Kristel considers herself a designer of experiences, which is why the overall experience design plays a crucial role in her exhibitions. In 2023, the French Ministry of Culture awarded her the Order of Arts and Letters.

Toomas Järvet
Toomas Järvet is one of the founders of the Juhan Kuus Documentary Photo Centre, where he serves as a co-director, curator and marketing director. Toomas is also a filmmaker and visual anthropologist with over 20 years of experience in the advertising and marketing fields. He studied law and cultural theory but has always had a keen interest in the visual arts, which led him to find his medium in photography and filmmaking. Toomas earned his master’s in visual anthropology from the University of Barcelona. He has directed three documentary films and curated over sixty photo exhibitions.
